11/18(Sat) Cavity Magnetron

Trivia: How the Microwave was Invented?

In 1945, while working on a radar project, Percy Spencer's chocolate bar in his pocket melted while standing in front of a magnetron. This led to the development of the microwave oven.

After he noticed the chocolate bar, Percy put popcorn kernel and raw egg in front of the magnetron to confirm that microwaves could cook food. Cool Facts!

The cavity magnetron is a key component in microwave ovens and radar systems. It generates microwave radio signals through the interaction of electrons with a magnetic field in a resonant cavity, allowing for the production of high-frequency electromagnetic waves used in various applications, particularly in radar technology during World War II and later in microwave cooking.
