• Fully digitized turret and fire control
• Goal: Interoperability with NATO (uses standard 120 mm NATO rounds)
Key Features of the Challenger Series
• Rifled Gun: Unlike most NATO tanks with smoothbore guns, Challenger 1 & 2 used a rifled barrel for greater long-range accuracy with certain types of ammunition.
Armor: Chobham armor provides superior protection against kinetic and shaped-charge weapons.
• Accuracy: Exceptionally accurate main gun and fire control system, effective at long range.
Record
• In 2003, a Challenger 2 scored one of the longest tank-on-tank kills in history — over 4.7 km in Iraq.
