책과 정당화. 저 둘의 공통점은 인류가 지금에 이르기까지 사라지지 않고 이어져온 것이라는 거다.

'기록'은 인간 스스로 온전한 모습으로 불멸하고자 하는 노력이고 진심과 진실을 반드시 물려주어야 함을 인간은 본능으로 안다는 증거다. '정당화'는 집단, 국가, 대륙간의 관계에서도 끊임없이 이용되고 있는데, 자신의 결정이 옳았음을 증명할 때, 하나의 정책을 수립할 때, 혹은 타 국가를 공격할 때 등등 온갖 의지, 열정, 야망에 명분을 붙이는 것이다.

기록은 죄가 아니고 정당화 자체도 잘못된 게 아니다. 책은 그 어떤 것도 지시하지 않았고 다만 뿜어낼 뿐이다. 책과 정당화가 온전한 형태로 시너지를 내어야 하는데, 공부 많이 한 몇몇의 수장들은 책으로부터 자신을 기괴하게 정당화하는 요령만 익힌 것 같기도 하다. 더 차지해야 하는 이유, 힘을 과시해야 하는 이유 등.

적게 가져야 유리하고 먼저 털어내면 무려 '승리'를 한다. 이것은 카드 게임 중 '원카드' 게임의 룰이다.

만약 지구에 그 법칙이 적용된다면, 어떤 모습일까.

Books and Justification. What they share in common is that both have endured, alongside humanity, to this very day.

"Record-keeping" is an effort by humans to remain immortal in their most complete form; it is evidence that we instinctively know we must pass down our sincerity and truth. "Justification," meanwhile, is constantly employed in the relationships between groups, nations, and continents. It is the act of attaching a rationale to all kinds of will, passion, and ambition—whether establishing a policy or attacking another nation—to prove that one's decisions were right.

Recording is not a sin, and justification itself is not inherently wrong. A book does not dictate; it simply emanates. Books and justification should create a synergy in their purest forms. However, it seems some highly educated leaders have only learned the knack to derive grotesque justifications for themselves from books—finding reasons to hoard more or to flaunt their power.

In the card game "One-Card," the rule is simple: the fewer cards you hold, the more advantaged you are, and the first to discard everything achieves "victory." If that very law were applied to our Earth, what would the world look like?
