로버트 블라이(Robert Bly)는 인간의 그림자를 "보이지 않는 가방"과 같다고 했다. 분노나 이기심, 또는 세상에 받아들여지지 못한 자신만의 본성들은 계속 그 가방 안에 쌓이고 쌓여 가방은 계속 커진다는 것이다.

하지만 가방 속의 것들은 보고 싶지 않은 무언가가 아니라, 다양하게 활용해야 할 레시피들이다. 사람은 풍부한 인생의 재료들을 제대로 쓰지도 못하고 들고만 다니며 자신은 짐을 지고 산다고 한다. 마음의 상처를 안고 산다고 한다.

그러나 그림자는 존재로써, 실체로써 인정되고 있다는 증거다. 빛이 투과되지 못하는 온전한 무언가라는 증거. 나의 안경을 거쳐 왜곡되는 나의 세계는 온전한 존재로써 인정받기에 그림자가 있다. 그림자 안에 깃든 비옥한 재료들, 세계와 내가 차곡차곡 쌓아온 그것들을 앞으로는 하나씩 꺼내어 응용하고 변화시켜 보며, 마지막 날까지 이 가방을 다 비우고 1cm의 그림자도 남기지 말아 보는 걸 큰 목표로 삼는 것도 즐거울 것 같다.

Robert Bly once compared the human shadow to an "invisible bag." He explained that our anger, selfishness, or parts of our nature unaccepted by the world keep piling up inside this bag, causing it to grow heavier and larger over time.

However, the contents of this bag are not things to be shunned; rather, they are recipes waiting to be utilized in diverse ways. People often carry these rich ingredients of life without ever using them, complaining that they are burdened by a "load" or living with "emotional scars."

Yet, a shadow is proof that one is recognized as a being, as a tangible reality. It is evidence of something whole that light cannot simply pass through. My world, though distorted through the lens of my own glasses, has a shadow because it is acknowledged as a complete existence. It would be a joyful and grand life goal to one by one take out those fertile ingredients—the things the world and I have steadily built up within that shadow—to apply and transform them, until the bag is finally emptied and not even a centimeter of shadow remains on our final day.
