우리는 그림자를 어두운 면, 가려진 면, 이면, 부정적인 나로 해석하기도 하지만 사실 그림자는 그야말로 '존재' 자체를 증거 하는 직접적인 단서가 아닌가. 이 세상의 존재가 아니라면 빛이 그저 투과되기 때문에 그림자가 생길 리 없다. 살아 숨 쉬는, 간지럽고 아프고, 시원하고 따갑기도 한 피부를 가진, 쉽게 뚫리지 않는 ’물질‘의 존재로서 이 세상에 얹혔다는 시각적 증거이다.

그림자는 빛과 존재가 만들어내는, 필멸의 인간이 하는 호소이다. 반면 불멸의 이어짐을 의미하기도 한다. 그림자라는 것은 인간에게서 딸려 나오는 것, 인간의 파생, 그의 실시간 퍼포먼스이고 무한히 재생될 인류의 잠재적 기록물이다.

While we often interpret the shadow as a dark side, a hidden facet, or a negative self, is it not actually the most direct evidence of existence itself? If something does not exist in this world, light simply passes through it, leaving no shadow behind. The shadow is visual proof that we are placed in this world as 'matter'—possessing skin that breathes, feels tickles and pain, coolness and stings—a substance that cannot be easily permeated.

A shadow is an appeal made by mortal humans, born from the union of light and being. Conversely, it also signifies an immortal continuity. The shadow is something that trails from a human; it is a derivation, a real-time performance, and a potential record of humanity that will be played back infinitely.
