Chapter 5

One month later.

Amy went out of her house under the pretence of going for a walk. Once outside, she took her mobile phone out and called her brother.

“Hey, my lovely sister! How are you? I guess you and Jane are by now happily settling down?” asked John cheerfully.

“Happily settling down? Is this one of your practical jokes?” Amy uttered sarcastically.

“What do you mean by that, Amy?” asked John in a more serious tone.

“The colleague of yours starts her day at 5am. Even on weekends! And she does everything that causes maximum level of noise and annoyance. Constantly arranging furniture, climbing up & down the flight of stairs. Any time of the day!"

"Even she plays the timpani. How could she manage to breathe in that tiny room of hers with that giant instrument, I haven't got a clue."

"Jane," continued Amy, "doesn't bother to close her bedroom door when she was using her super noisy hairdryer. Even when most people would not consider rising from their bed.”

“That’s not all. She empties my food cupboard and fridge even before I eat. That devil even touched my precious coffee beans Uncle James had bought me for Christmas. Without my permission!” complained Amy, frustrated.

“She sleepwalks too. Sleepwalking, can you imagine? She wakes me up in the middle of night and doesn’t remember a thing next morning. What else she could do to annoy me and even scare me, I would be amazed to find out.”

“Hey, calm down, sis, don’t fret! She is, at least, not an alcoholic, like your previous flatmate, is she?” defended the brother.

“What? Nonsense! Selena wasn’t an alcoholic. She just couldn’t stop loving her life, food and drinks. And we both got on very well and enjoyed each other’s company throughout her stay. I was so sad to lose her as a flatmate when she was marrying that French guy and left for Paris. That’s all. We still get in touch,” said Amy indignantly.

“I wouldn’t put it that way. I’ve always hated Selena. She drank too much and talked too much. And…”

“So what? She didn’t steal my food or wake me up in an impossibly early hour, like your psychopathic colleague.”

“I know Jane is a bit different. Please be more patient with her as she had been reeling from the shock of getting evicted by her landlord...”

“What?” shouted Amy. “Was Jane evicted by her landlord? Oh my Gosh! I’m not surprised. Why didn’t you mention it to me in the beginning? And looks like you’ve already known how crazy she was, haven’t you?”

“I… eh… sort of have, but…”

John couldn’t finish his word as the phone went dead. She was gone.

Amy needed to come up with an idea to drive her new flatmate out of her home and out of her life. If possible, out of her brother’s life too. A real idea is required quickly. To do something before things get out of her control and she herself goes mad.
