다시 이야기를 끝맺을 기회를 얻었다.
이건 마치,
1999년 청룡기 전국고교야구선수권 대회 준결승전에서 춘천고등학교 야구부가 선린상고 야구부를 만나, 초반 9점을 내주며 9:0으로 끌려다니다가 11:4로 뒤지던 7회 말 5점을 내며 추격, 그리고 9회 말 주자 만루, 투 아웃 풀카운트 상황에서 9번 타자 민경환이 타석에 선 상황과 같은 것이다.

기린의 입을 빌려 말하고 싶었다.

너무나 평범한 말이지만,
너무나 멋지게 담장을 넘어간다.

이 이야기는 춘천고등학교 최초 문예 동아리인「비상」의 13인의 발기인 중 하나가, 몇 년 전 돌고래 다리에 대한 괴담을 들려주며 시작되었다.
돌고래 다리에 대해 상상하면
그 이미지가 자꾸 떠오르고
어느 날 낯선 번호로 전화가 온다는
되도 않는 헛소리였다.
말하자면 이건 일종의 그럴듯하고 유치한 괴담 같은 거였다.
하지만 이 이야기는 내 뇌리에 깊이 박혀
한참이 지난 후에도 자꾸 그 친구에게 전화를 걸면 이렇게 외치게 되는 것이었다.
"돌고래 다리!"
그러면 녀석은 소스라치게 놀라며
"아씨. 너 때문에 또 생각났어." 라며 짜증을 부렸다.
지가 먼저 얘기해놓고선.
아무튼.
그 이후,
귀와 나는 한국으로 돌아와, 쥐, 세르게이와 함께 돌고래 다리 클럽을 운영하고 있다.
물론 사장은 세르게이다.
우리의 월급도 세르게이가 준다.
월급을 그렇게 많이 주는 편은 아니다.
세계 최고의 기업을 창업한 창업자치고는.
쥐와 귀가 가끔 다투는 것과
사무실이 차고지에서 좀처럼 벗어나지를 못하는 것.
세르게이가 의외로 에어컨을 고치는 데 소질이 없다는 점을 제외하고는

전화기에 다가간다.
