My Liberation Notes

These days, I am hooked on a Korean series called “My Liberation Notes”. It tells a story of three siblings and a stranger. I am a big fan of the writer, Hyeyoung Park, who also wrote ‘Another Miss Oh(또 오해영)’ and ‘My Mister(나의 아저씨)’. The characters in her drama are not flat and typical, unfollowing cliche.

In “My Liberation Note”, the three siblings live in Sampo(fictional city) located on the edge of Gyeonggi Province. They have to endure the 2-hour commute on the subway everyday, which makes them exhausted and deprives them of enjoying leisure and date in Seoul. In their neighbor, there lives a stranger named Mr.Gu. Nobody knows his real name, where he was from, what he did for a living and why he got to this town. The story progresses when the siblings and Mr.Gu are intertwined in various ways.

I amuse myself watching the “Chuang(worship)” relationship of Mr.Gu and Yeom Mi-jeong(the youngest child of the three siblings). Mr.Gu was being addicted to alcohol and hopeless after the suicide of his lover. Mi-jeong was depressed because her ex-boyfriend betrayed her and disappeared without her money being paid back. The poor man and woman started to worship each other in their own way, a kind of ardent love.

Son Sukku, playing the role of Mr.Gu became my favorite actor due to this series. His natural way of act, voice, and appearance fit into my type. The story of Mr.Gu makes me look forward to watching the next episodes whether he will reach the relief and have a happy ending with Mi-jeong.

I am thinking of watching the series again with English subtitles after the whole episodes are released . It would be a good and enjoyable way of learning English with my favorite drama.
