The Disadvantages If the Voting Age Is Lowered
Election has been the fairest way to select leaders in each countries. This laid a foundation for democratic society. Typically, voting involves registering, poing to a polling station, verifying your identity, receiving a ballot, marking your choice, and placing it in the ballot box. However, there is an argument surrounding the voting age. Some argue it . The voting age ust not be lowered because students do not know well hould be lowered, while others insist it should remain as it is. The voting age must not be lowered because students do not know well about politics, and when they vote, most of them depend on their parents.
To begin with, the voting age should not be lowered because students often depend on their parents when they vote. The average voting age starts at 19. If it lowers to 16, people can start election when they are students. Students are still weak to make political decisions. For example, in korea, 16 year old is a middle schooler. They did not start learning politics very well. So if they vote, they will follow their parents. Parents could recommend them to vote someone who they like. So they depend on their parents because it is hard for students to do a political decision. It is confusing to them. According to AP opinion, “62% of first-time voters aged 18~19 reported being strongy influenced by their parents’ potential views”. If the candidate is bad, parents can like them. So, students will choose them. Then if the bad candidate is chosen, he or she will make the country bad. Also, students cannot make an independent choices.
Moreover, the voting age should not be lowered because students do not generally know enough about politics well. Students do not really know about politics because in the USA, students do not learn politics specifically in schools. To conclude, they do not know about the government, parliament, and constitution. If they vote, they should watch news, and learn about politics really specifically. A+PREP daily states, “38% of high school students could name the 3 branches of the government”. However, some people say that it will give help to students if they pariticipate and engage in election and they will learn politics. This is not true because politics is a subject that is not specifically teached in school so it is not officially necessary to students. This leads to students’ confusion when they try to vote.
In conclusion, the voting age should not be lowered because when students often rely on their parents for voting decisions, and they typically lack thorough knowledge of politics. To sum up, students are weak to make political decisions so they rely on their parents, and politics is a subjects that is teached in school not specifically so they confuse when they vote. If the voting age is lowered, the first voting age could be 16~18. This age is still an age as living as a student. People need to give time students to study and grow up to vote for the country.
