Political Challenges & Devastated Impact
Climate Change is already a major catastrophe for us. If it continues, the global community will no longer be able to co-exist with mankind. With interest in the various pending issues taking place in the international society, climate change is of course an important issue, at least for myself, as one of humanity. This is because humans, including themselves, have polluted our homes as much as they do. When many countries and organizations do not recognize it and live as they are now, all species on Earth will eventually become extinct.
David Wallace-Wells, author of “The Unhabitable Earth” called climate change a “massacre” caused by mankind, not a “natural disaster.” Already, as global warming accelerates, many islanders are losing their lands. Rising sea levels are beginning to melt, and erosion of glaciers means that the Globe can no longer reflect radiant heat. In sum, the temperature in the Earth is getting hotter. Even though it is such a serious matter to be simply explained, many people, let alone care, are not paying attention, and are consistently saying, ‘I will be fine.’
Recently, Greta Thunberg, a Northern European teenage girl, has been strongly emphasizing this, but she is still inexperienced. The world is overflowing with a variety of factors that need to be known and considered. However, that child’s words need everyone in the world to listen. To this end, the international community is calling for a solution, but the agreement is an agreement. Western advanced countries are leading the way, however they are not actively participating, nevertheless they cannot be free from the responsibility which conducted by themselves to be developed. And the West, which boasted of being advanced in its responsibilities, must come up with follow-up measures.
Unfortunately, they are usually ignoring this and are shifting their duties to China. China has also stressed that most of its factories are the Western companies, and it has dismissed the contamination as only currently. Looking at recent carbon emissions, China is definitely overwhelming. This is because it serves as a “World Factory” and there are many industrial complex in big cities. In other words, it is not easy to determine who is accountable for this. But the West and China are blaming each other, on the contrary, the Western society needs to be cleaned up, and China must agree with it in order to put an end to this climate change. However, with the spread of coronavirus, the agreement among players is unknown.
Brazil is logging the Amazon, and Indonesia’s Borneo forest has decreased significantly. The Aral Sea in Central Asia is already drying up and has been drastically reduced to one of tenth. If forests are diminished, oxygen was not produced in natural. Also, it is difficult for Brazil to pay the basic income that most of countries provide. Because we can’t see all of effects right away. Brazil is also accelerating Amazon development because there is no room to wait for it. The same goes for Indonesia. Deforestation is fast increasing. In sum, deserts are widening, forests and lakes are shrinking. Given the fact that the situation is already ascending inland, it is causing amplification, which goes beyond the previously mentioned ice erosion and sea level rise.
What this amplification is causing is even much greater. More than a decade ago, the ice cap on Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, began to melt. The melting of the snow on the mountain means Africa faces a shortage of water resources. The representative river that starts form the symbol of Africa is the Nile. Already, the Nile River is directly linked to the survival and development of countries beyond agricultural possibilities. Besides the Nile, most of the African rivers begin at Mt. Kilimanjaro. That is melting snow puts Africa in a tougher environmental crisis. Simultaneously, it is also a substitute for the Himalayas. If human does not connote this and does not cope with it, the consequences that we confront will inevitably be disastrous than expected.
More brutally speaking, all plants and animals in the Earth are losing their homelands due to human beings. The indiscriminate hunting of animals by Westerners in Africa has become an old story. Because of reckless urbanization, animals have long lost their homes, and at the same time, the ecosystem is being destroyed. In the end, global warming has intensified as carbon emissions and forests have been developed owing to the increase in factories, resulting in melting glaciers and downsizing lakes. Many lakes are already drying up in South Africa, and the amount of water that citizens use for drinking water is extremely reduced because of environmental pollution. Even if we don’t go too far, we will not be free from environmental problem just by looking in Korea.
The rise in sea levels continues, as mentioned earlier, which means that “Our Home” is definitely hot. The climate is mostly changing, and the frequency and scale of forests fire are hugely large. Forests fire in Sweden and the United States in 2018, and Australia in 2020 are typical. Sweden’s wildfires, in particular, took months to extinguish, even though they were forests fires in the coldest weather. These in Australia are overwhelming in size and can be considered the largest in the world. In other words, the disasters we face, such as floods, and forests fires, are likely to result in daily life as in the weather forecast, of course, drought and thirst are growing. The dryness of the lake means that is very difficult to secure drinking water. Eventually, the drought continues, and as the number of animal and human carcasses increases, the ocean absorbs them. Now, there are gigantic plastic islands floating in the sea. The current problem has not been solved, and if other matters are added, the results are highly obvious.
Putting all this together, economic problems and deepening climate disputes are unavoidable. Repeatedly, if asked whether the countries are reliable in the end, the intensity of the conflicts will intensify, and the probability that war will eventually result will only escalation. Or, facing the collapse of the existing system is not difficult for us guess without having to look at the book. Furthermore, the present circumstances may be the same, but the book explains the results of various studies in a far more intensive tone. If they do not accept this, there is no way to escape the most terrible conditions we face.
It is necessary to think that we are one while reducing disputes as much as possible. But we are sure everyone knows, this is a very vain idealism in fairy tales. Nevertheless, very few people are aware of climate change, look back on their actions, and beware of it. As stated in many ways, one can see well from the basic attitude of someone dealing with public goods and services. Who would have heard of the need to protect the environment and lessen the use of plastic when the situation is like this? Also we are all using all products produced in factories. Most of all, mankind has already entered a hyper-consumption society in the 1900s. Since there are countless items made, the period of consumptive behavior has also condensed rapidly. How can we look at electronic devices that are being mass-produced?
Environmental problems can never be solved without political compromises and resolution. This is no different form the domestic factors of each country alone. This is because their respective interests are all heterogeneous. Otherwise, it is directly related to someone’s survival. That is why it is not easy to force, and it is difficult to speak out. But at least, we should be aware. The things I consume, the actions I’ve done, will have a huge impact. If I get a little deeper, we can see Heinrich’s Law (1:29:300). It is highly likely that the catastrophe we will cope with has yet to come. I have mentioned that climate change we have witnessed will be just one of 300 small cases, and in years or decades we may see an event, which is equivalent to 29.
