[Essay 8] Settling down

It’s been about 3 weeks since I landed on Korea. Everything goes wonderful, but one thing that I’m still struggling with is that I need to organize my schuedule like how I have to set my daily plan up as a teacher of English. Fortunately though, I almost figure out what it should look like. Here’s the daily tasks:

1. Warm up by reading some journals or anything worth to read to brainstorm. Plus, watching some videos like an interview is also good for English listening practice. The reason why I do like to read, watch and listen is because… First, reading helps me to review a complete sentence structure, which is important to write my own sentence in English and to learn new vocabularies that can be used in many different situations. Second, Watching videos is useful to improve especislly a sense of English, that is applied to other languages as well, by looking at facial expressions and gestures, which are important as a part of communication. So, reading and watching are my first morning routine.

2. Writing and speaking are the next step. Those are the most practical excercise, boosting an English proficiency. This is an action by taking words out of my thoughts and writing my own sentence like this essay. Because I found a writing pretty much effective to develop my English skills. What to do first is to open up ‘Brunch’ and write an essay, talking about how I feel or what I think on the day. For speaking, I think, from now on, it’s mostly about practicing and preparing a textbook for ESL program that I am going to work on at two different institutions. Online textbooks would be a main material. But if it’s too boring or I don’t have anything to prepare then … not sure yet, we will see.

So, this is the whole process to sustain my English skills and keep myself on the track so that I don’t loose what I’ve learned in America. I will sometimes call my American friends in the states to keep in touch and get some feedbacks as well, even though they often try to be too kind to point out something wrong about my English skills. But it's alright, since I know how to push them to take the honesty out of their mind.

Those steps are all about a daily routine to keep polishing my second language and I believe those methods can be applied to anyone who wants to speak English fluently.
