아래 외국어 학습 유튜버 Steve Kaufmann은 79살 캐나다인으로 무려 20개 국어를 구사함.

1.반복과 새로운 자료의 균형.

한 영상을 마스터하려 하는 시도 따위는 하지 말 것. 예컨대, 오늘 앉아서 1시간 동안 같은 영상만 돌려 보지 말 것.
물론, 모르는 부분이 있으면 사전을 찾아보고 다시 볼 수도 있음. 이게 반복임. 그런데 반복만! 하면 안 됨. 100% 이해가 되지 않더라도 다음 영상으로 넘어가서 새로운 영상을 보는 시간도 필요함. 이게 새로움 (novelty)임.
요컨대, 같은 영상을 또 보는 반복과 더불어서 새로운 영상에 노출되는 시간의 균형이 필요함. 왜? 다음 한 문장으로 요약됨.

(같은 거만 계속 반복해서 보면, 그만큼 우리 두뇌가 새롭게 배울 수 있는 부분이 적어진다. (다른 말로 하면? 100% 다 들리고 이해되는 영상은 배울 게 없는 영상임))
2.안 들린다고 좌절하지 말 것.

몇 번을 반복하고 공부하더라도 이해가 안 되는 부분은 여전히 있음. 걱정 NO! 이게 당연한 거임! 외국어는 점진적으로 발전함.
Steve Kaufmann도 같은 자료를 20번 30번 볼 때가 있다고 함. (물론, 그날 그 자리에서 30번 보는 게 아니라 (정확히 반대하는 학습) 시간차를 두고 나중에). 30번째는 들리지 않던 것이 31번째는 조금씩 더 들림. 외국어는? 이렇듯 점진적으로 늚. 오늘 단 한 큐에 100% 이해할 수 없음.

30분을 듣더라도 집중할 때도, 아예 듣지 않을 때도, 30% 정도 집중하는 각양각색의 순간이 있음. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리 두뇌는 30분 동안 여전히 낯선 외국어에 적응하고 있는 훈련을 하고 있음.

don't try to you know master any particular lesson or content item it's all exposure it's all helping the brain get used to the language
if you listen and you don't understand don't get frustrated. if you listen and read and listen and read and still don't understand don't get frustrated that's normal
