요즘 뉴트로가 대세다. 예전 문화를 현대적 감각으로 새롭게 해석하는 뉴트로는 new+retro를 결합해서 만든 말이라는 데 이게 우리나라에서 만든 말인 듯하다. 구글에 newtro를 검색하면 한국 관련한 기사가 제법 나오는데 한국에서 만든 신조어가 해외에서도 관심 받는 것을 보면 K-culture가 유행은 유행인 듯. 그렇다면 신조어는 영어로 무엇일까? neologism, coinage 등이 있는데 neologism의 neo는 new라는 의미가 있다.

word-forming element meaning "new, young, recent," used in a seemingly endless number of adjectives and nouns, mostly coined since c. 1880, from Greek neos "new, young, youthful; fresh, strange; lately, just now," from PIE root *newo- (see new). 위의 설명 중 paleo가 neo의 반대라는 말이 있다. anthroplogy 공부할 때 paleoanthropology를 말하면서 paleo가 old를 뜻한다고 잠깐 언급했었다.

neologism : 신조어. neo+log(speak, word) 새로운 단어라는 뜻이 된다.

neoanthropic : 신인류의. neo+anthrope(man)

neo-liberalism : 신자유주의. neo+liberalism(자유주의)

neo를 붙여 새로운 단어를 만든다면 어떤 단어를 만들고 싶은가?
