주를 경외하는 구체적인 방법

‘주를 경외하며 마음에 할례를 받으라’
이는 구체적으로는, ‘공정하며 뇌물을 받지 말고, 사회적 약자의 권리를 옹호하고, 이방인에게 음식과 옷을 나누어 주라’는 말씀이다.

교회에서 말하는 주를 두려워하라는 말씀은, 결코 개인의 종교의식에 집중하라는 뜻이 아니다. 그 방향은 이웃과 사회를 향해 있다.

“Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.”
