하버드 대학이 밝힌 SAT-ACT 옵셔널에 대한 입장

"지속적인 COVID-19 대유행으로 인해 Harvard College는 2021-2022 애플리케이션 사이클을 통해 표준화된 테스트 정책을 확장하고 있습니다. ACT나 SAT 시험 결과 없이도 입학이 가능하도록 하겠습니다."

지속적인 COVID-19 대유행으로 인해 Harvard College는 2021-2022학년도 입시에서 표준화된 테스트, SAT-ACT 점수를 내지 않아도 되는 테스트 옵셔널 정책을 연장했다. 즉 ACT나 SAT 시험 결과를 제출하지 않아도 입학이 가능하도록 할 것이다.

하버드 대학의 전체 입학 전형과 일관되게, 표준화된 시험은 많은 평가 요소들 중 한 가지에 불과하다. 고등학교 시절 교실 안팎의 성과 , 지역사회 참여, 일을 한 경력, 학생의가족에 대한 도움 등이 우리 입시 평가 과정의 일부로 간주된다. 하지만 이번 코로나 바이러스 사태로 인해 자신이 할 수 있는 활동에 한계가 있다고 판단되는 학생들은 그 결과 불이익을 받지 않을 것이며 성적표 등에 합격/불합격 또는 기타 유사점만을 제시할 수 있는 학생들도 불이익을 받지 않을 것이다.

올해 표준화된 시험 점수(SAT-ACT)를 제출하지 않은 학생들은 지원 과정에서 불이익을 받지 않을 것이다. 그들의 지원서는 그들이 제시한 것에 기초하여 검토될 것이며, 그들은 중고등학교에서의 성과와 미래에 대한 약속을 전달할 수 있다고 믿는 어떤 자료라도 보내도록 장려될 것이다. 응시자는 원하는 경우 공식 시험 점수 또는 자체 보고 시험 점수를 제출할 수 있다.

AP 등 표준화된 시험결과는 학업상담, 배치, 제도연구 등에 활용되기 때문에 시험을 고려하지 않고 지원한 학생은 하버드 입학 전 여름 동안 시험성적 제출을 권유받지만 필수는 아니다.

Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Harvard College is extending our standardized testing policy through the 2021-2022 application cycle. We will allow students to apply for admission without requiring ACT or SAT test results.

Consistent with Harvard’s whole-person admissions process, standardized tests are only one factor among many. Accomplishments in and out of the classroom during the high school years – including community involvement, employment, and help given to students’ families are considered as part of our process. However, students who find themselves limited in the activities they can pursue due to the current coronavirus outbreak will not be disadvantaged as a result, nor will students who are only able to present pass/fail grades or other similar marks on their transcripts.

Students who do not submit standardized testing this coming year will not be disadvantaged in the application process. Their applications will be considered on the basis of what they have presented, and they are encouraged to send whatever materials they believe would convey their accomplishments in secondary school and their promise for the future. Applicants may choose to submit official test scores or self-report test scores if they so wish.

Because standardized test results are used for academic counseling, placement, and institutional research, enrolling students who applied without considerations of tests will be invited to, but not required to, submit test scores over the summer, prior to matriculating at Harvard.
