Hamilton’s Rule In Integral Form: Behavior As The Variable Of Inclusive Fitness
This paper reinterprets Hamilton’s rule not as a simple inequality but as the derivative of the inclusive fitness function, redefining its domain from phenotype to action. This reinterpretation arises from the limitations of gene-centered determinism, which fails to fully explain cooperative behavior extending beyond genetic relatedness. It explores how rB - C can represent the marginal effect of behavioral change on inclusive fitness and be integrated over time to describe evolution dynamically. Though unfinished, it aims to bridge gene-centered and individual-level selection by treating altruism, reciprocity, and sacrifice as continuous outcomes of the same mathematical structure.
