EP.01 - 도시의 스펙트럼

스타벅스 - 명동 남산

스펙트럼

내가 기억하는 명동은 365일 내내 사람과 자동차로 분주한 장소다. 사람들은 차를 피해, 차는 사람들을 피해 각자의 길을 빠르게 움직인다. 이곳 스타벅스 명동남산점에는 빠르게 움직이는 명동의 모습을 담아내고 싶었다. 빠르게 움직이는 사물들을 포착하는 방법 중에는 카메라의 셔터를 천천히 닫히도록 조절하여 움직임의 여운을 잡아내는 방법이 있다. 하나의 점은 긴 선이 되고 여럿의 긴 선들이 모여 흐름과 다채로움을 만들어낸다. 뉴욕, 일본, 그리고 내가 사는 홍콩과 같이 밀도가 높은 도시의 밤 풍경을 찍으면 쉽게 볼 수 있는 모습이다. 도시의 스펙트럼을 간직한 매장, 이번 프로젝트에 담아내고 싶은 모습이다.

Spectrum. As one of the most touristic cities in Korea, Myeongdong is a hustle and bustle city with people and cars. People are walking fast stepping aside from cars, and also cars are moving fast stepping aside from people. This scene of the city is what I want to reflect on the Myeongdong Namsan store. In many ways of capturing the moment of the motion, there is a way of adjusting the camera frame slowly. A point would become a long line, and groups of various lines are creating a massive flow and variety. Especially in high-dense cities like New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong where I live, this motion is easily captured by the camera during nighttime. The city with a spectrum is my image of Myeongdong and what I am eager to reflect on in the project.

다양성과 역동성

스펙트럼은 여러 빛줄기들이 모여 이루어진 그룹으로 다양성을 상징한다. 한 줄기의 빛을 프리즘이라는 투명한 기구에 통과시키면 다양한 색으로 변하여 나오는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 이 다양성과 역동성은 명동이라는 장소성과 공통점을 가지고 있다. 도시에서 건축물이 가진 의미는 자연이 가진 형세와 사람이 가진 문화적 특성을 반영하는 매체이다. 따라서 스펙트럼이라는 요소가 건축물의 입면에 그리고 공간요소에 활용되어 공간을 더욱 풍성하게 한다면 이는 가치있는 작업이 될 것이다. 이 곳을 방문할 사람들과 공유하고 싶은 메세지이다.

Movement with variety. A spectrum is a group of colours and has a meaning the variety in it. When a ray of light passes through the prism, it is separated into various colours. This variety and activity have common sense in Myeongdong's context. In the city, the role of the building is a media reflecting nature topography and human culture. With this, the conceptual idea from the spectrum can be valuable when it is reflected in the building and space design. This is the message that I want to share with the people coming to this store in the future.

삼각형과 사선

삼각형은 다루기 어렵지만 꽤나 매력적인 도형이다. 선에서 점 하나를 이동해 면을 쉽게 만들어 낼수 있고 비율에 따라 역동성, 긴장감, 안정성을 만들수 있다. 남산과 프리즘이 공통적으로 가지고 있는 성격, 삼각형을 도구로 하여 형태와 패턴을 디자인하였다. 그리고 빛과 그림자를 사용하여 깊이감을 증폭시켜나갔다. 빛은 시간에 따라 다양한 온도를 만들어내고 삼각형을 통해 만들어진 그림자는 깊이를 통해 다채로움을 나에게 선물해주었다.

Triangle shape and Diagonal pattern. Triangle is quite a handful but very attractive shape. From the line, a triangle shape can be created by adding one point at a certain distance easily, also it can provide dynamicity, tension, and even stability at the same time. Inspired by Namsan and Prism, the triangle shape is the main tool to make shapes and patterns in this project. In addition to the shape, natural light, artificial lighting, and different depth enhance the design.
