기도는 어떻게 해야 좋을까요? 두 손을 모으고 싹싹 빌면서 “이거 들어주세요. 저거 들어주세요.”라는 기도는 차원이 낮은 기도라고 합니다. 자신이 믿는 신의 이름을 부르며 제발 자신이 원하는 대로 되게 해 달라는 간절한 기도도 필요하겠지만, 어떤 일이 일어나도 다 수용할 수 있게 해 달라고, 자신의 그릇을 넓혀 달라고 하는 기도가 더욱 효과가 좋은 기도라고 합니다.
생각해 보세요. 한정된 지식과 경험을 가지고 “빨리 이거 해주세요. 빨리 저거 해주세요.” 기도하는 나의 소망이 이루어지는 것이 좋을까요? 아니면 전지전능한 신께서 전체를 살펴보면서 가장 효과적이고 가장 좋은 방법으로 소망을 이루어 주는 것이 좋을까요? 기도는 자기 생각대로 빨리 이루어지게 요청하는 것보다는, 전지전능한 신의 생각과 신의 방식대로 가장 알맞은 시기에, 가장 적절한 방식으로, 가장 좋은 것을 이루어 달라고 요청하는 것이 현명한 기도라고 생각합니다.
한마디로 자기 생각을 모두 내려놓고, 기도하는 신에게 모든 것을 믿고 맡기면 됩니다. 이렇게 기도하면, 자기 생각에 집착하지 않으면서 현재 상황을 온전하게 받아들일 수 있습니다. 그리고 자기 생각대로 빨리 이루어달라는 조급한 마음이 많이 사라집니다. 상황이 어려울수록, 마음이 간절할수록, 생각의 관점을 바꾸어 신의 뜻대로 이루어달라는 성숙한 기도를 하시기 바랍니다.
