질문하는 능력이 당신 능력입니다.
학문적 능력이 탁월한 사람들이 잘하는 것이 무엇인지 아세요? 바로 질문하는 능력입니다. 삼성장학회 임원으로 있으면서 장학생들이 예리하게 질문하는 능력에 놀란 적이 여러 번 있었습니다. 제가 50세 무렵에 깨달은 것들을 20대 30대 장학생이 질문하거나 대답할 때는 “어떻게 저 나이에 이걸 깨달을 수 있지?”라는 놀라움을 금할 수 없었습니다. 학술 캠프에 초빙된 대학 총장과 세계적인 석학들도 장학생들의 날카로운 질문에 찬사를 보냈습니다. 질문은 왜 잘해야 하는 걸까요?
사람의 능력을 알고 싶다면, 질문하는 수준을 살펴보면 됩니다. 질문의 수준이 그 사람의 능력이기 때문입니다. 잘 배우고 싶다면 질문을 잘해야 합니다. 질문을 잘해야 상대로부터 원하는 대답을 들으면서 중요한 정보를 얻을 수 있기 때문입니다. 특히 지도자가 되고 싶다면 필요한 질문을 잘할 줄 알아야 합니다. 위대한 리더란 위대한 질문을 할 수 있는 사람이기 때문입니다. 리더는 질문을 통해 자신의 의견을 전달하고, 방향을 제시하고, 새로운 아이디어를 도출합니다. 그리고 질문을 통해 사람의 능력을 키워주고, 사람들을 결집할 수 있습니다.
일이 풀리지 않을 때는 질문을 바꿔보는 게 좋습니다. 질문을 바꾸면 생각하는 방식이 달라지고, 생각하는 방식이 달라지면 새로운 해결책이 나타나기 때문입니다. 성공하고 싶고, 인정받고 싶고, 인생을 바꾸고 싶다면, 질문하는 능력을 키워서 질문을 바꿔야 합니다. 위대한 발명도, 탁월한 논문도, 훌륭한 영화도, 엄청난 성과도 새로운 관점의 질문에서 시작됩니다. 질문의 수준이 성장과 성공의 수준이 됩니다. 독창적인 질문을 하면서 멋지게 성장하며 성공하는 당신을 보고 싶습니다.
The ability to ask questions is your ability.
Do you know what people with outstanding academic abilities are good at? It's the ability to ask questions. While serving as an executive at the Samsung Scholarship Association, I was often surprised by the scholarship students’ ability to ask sharp questions. When scholarship recipients in their 20s and 30s asked or answered questions about things I realized when I was around 50, I was surprised and thought, “How can scholarship recipients realize this at such a young age?” University presidents and world-class scholars invited to the academic camp also praised the scholarship students for their sharp questions. Why do we need to be good at asking questions?
If you want to know a person's ability, just look at the level at which they ask questions. This is because the level of the question is a person's ability. If you want to learn well, you have to be good at asking questions. If you ask questions well, you can get the answer you want from the other person and gain important information. Especially if you want to become a leader, you need to know how to ask the right questions. Because great leaders are people who can ask great questions. Through questions, leaders communicate their opinions, provide direction, and generate new ideas. And through questions, leaders can develop people’s abilities and bring people together.
When things don't work out, it's a good idea to change your question. When you change the question, the way you think changes, and when you change the way you think, new solutions appear. If you want to succeed, be recognized, and change your life, you need to improve your ability to ask questions and change your questions. Great inventions, excellent papers, great movies, and great achievements all begin with questions from a new perspective. The level of questions you ask determines your level of growth and success. I want to see you grow and succeed by asking original questions.
