미국 대기업 연봉 1위 CEO는 누구?
CNN에 따르면 반도체 설계업체 AMD의 리사 수가 지난해 미국 대기업 연봉 순위 1위에 올랐다. AP 통신과 에콰일러가 2011부터 시작해 온 조사에서 1위에 오른 첫 여성 임원이다.
수는 지난 2019년, 5850만 달러(724억 원)의 보수를 받은 것으로 확인됐다. 2위인 디스커버리 데이비드 자슬라브와는 1300만 달러 차이이다. 데이비드 자슬라브는 4580만 달러(567억 원)를 받았다.
이번 조사는 2019년 기준 임금으로, 코로나19의 영향을 받기 전 결과이다.
수는 2014년, AMD CEO에 취임한 뒤 재정파탄 위기에 처한 기업을 S&P 500에서 최고 실적을 올리고 인텔에 대적할만한 경쟁자로 만든 바 있다. 현재 회사는 클라우드 컴퓨팅과 게임 컴퓨터 기술 개발에 힘을 쏟고 있는 중이다.
AMD의 주가는 2019년 한 해 동안 156%나 성장했다.
수는 대기업을 이끄는 소수의 여성 중 한 명으로, 총 329명의 에콰일러 리스트에 오른 20명의 여성 중 한 명이기도 하다. 이 20명에는 지난 4월 물러난 록히드마틴(LMT) 마릴린 휴슨, 제너럴모터스(GM) 메리 바라, IBM(IBM) 전 최고경영자(CEO) 지니 로메티 등이 포함되어 있다.
한편, 미국 주요 대기업 최고경영자(CEO)들의 지난해 평균(중간값) 임금은 1230만 달러(약 152억 원)에 달한 것으로 조사됐다. 이는 전년보다 4.1% 증가한 수치이다.
AMD’s Lisa Su was the highest-paid CEO of a company in the S&P 500 last year. She is the first woman to top the annual review, compiled by the Associated Press and executive compensation analysis firm Equilar, since it began in 2011.
Su earned a total of $58.5 million in 2019 — almost $13 million more than the next-highest paid CEO, Discovery Inc’s (DISCB) David Zaslav, who earned $45.8 million.
Because the study looked at compensation packages from 2019, the results do not reflect the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, which has pushed many executives to forgo some or all of their compensation.
After taking the helm at AMD in 2014, Su took a company on the verge of financial ruin and turned it into a top performer in the S&P 500 and a formidable competitor to Intel. The semiconductor company is now creating the technology to power cloud computing and gaming computers.
During 2019 alone, AMD’s stock grew by 156%.
Su is one of a handful of women leading big tech companies and is one among 20 women who made the Equilar list, which featured a total of 329 executives. Also included in that 20 are Lockheed Martin’s (LMT) Marillyn Hewson, General Motors’ (GM) Mary Barra and former IBM (IBM) CEO Ginni Rometty, who stepped down in April.
More broadly, the study found that median compensation for all executives surveyed reached $12.3 million, up 4.1% from 2018, though the growth rate was slower than the previous two years.
