수공예가 어린이를 위한 교육의 기본이 되어야 한다

Children have a natural antipathy to books– handcraft should be the basis of education. A school should be the most beautiful place in every town and village – so beautiful that the punishment for undutiful children should be that they should be debarred from going to school the following day.

아이들은 책에 타고난 반감을 가지고 있다. 따라서 수공예가 교육의 기본이 되어야 한다. 학교는 모든 도시와 마을에서 가장 아름다운 장소가 되어야 한다. 너무나 아름다워서, 의무를 다하지 않은 아이들에게 다음 날 학교 가는 걸 금지하는 것이 그들에게 내리는 벌이 되도록 해야 한다.
