멀고도 가까운 10252023
≪멀고도 가까운≫은 타국으로 이주해 살아가는 아시아 여성 작가들을 1:1로 매칭해, 네 쌍의 작가들이 5개월간 나눈 대화를 전시의 형식으로 선보이는 프로젝트다. 2023년 6월부터 10월까지 진행되는 5개월 간의 여정은 웹사이트에 2023년 7월부터 일주일 간격으로 올라갈 예정이다. 아카이브 될 여러 형식의 작가들의 대화와 그 안에서 생성될 주제는 2024년 2월 10일부터 3월 10일까지 A.I.R. Gallery(여성 작가들을 위한 미국 최초의 비영리 기관)에서 개최한다.
개인 일정으로 한국에 왔다. 오랜만의 가족 모임이 반갑고 즐거우면서도 혼자 보내는 시간이 없어 조금 버겁다. 오늘에서야 조금 여유가 생겼다.
지난 20일에는 YWS Foundation으로부터 기금을 받았다. 금액의 액수보다도 <멀고도 가까운> 프로젝트가 선정되었다는 사실이 기뻤다. 이번 주는 작가들에게 뉴스레터를 쓸 시간이 도저히 없어서 소셜미디어를 도와주고 있는 동료가 대신해 작가들에게 메일을 전달해 줬다. 진심 어린 글이 고맙다.

PY is currently in South Korea, attending family events and making the most of her time. Hence, I'm taking over this week's newsletter.
This week, we've updated conversations between Yasi Apliour and Kyoung Eun Kang. Whenever I read Yasi and Kyoung Eun's stories, one particular idiom often comes to mind: In Korean, it's written "회자정리 거자필판." In Chinese characters, it's written "會者定離去者必返." This idiom beautifully encapsulates the essence of any relationship: A new relationship is followed by an inevitable farewell, and after a farewell, a destined reunion awaits us.
Life can often feel like an unceasing cycle of forming and reforming whether with ourselves, with others, with objects, memories, places, or anything else. Indeed, our identities are shaped by the relationships we encounter throughout our lives. We see ourselves through the people we love or we once loved. We are remembered by our behaviors and the words we speak to others. With that in mind, I would like to express my gratitude to you all for sharing your thoughts and feelings and being vulnerable in your work. While listening to your stories, I could learn so much more about myself and could expand my understanding of others.
October marks the final month of Season 1 for The Faraway Nearby project. It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you, and I look forward to reuniting with you in the near future (especially since we have an upcoming show at A.I.R. Gallery in February 2024)!
