the heart is a lonely hunter

falling in love with the city.

by Peter Shin Toronto

Taken from a French word, meaning to "stroll" or "loaf", the concept of the flâneur developed in Paris in the mid nineteenth century and later spread to other European cities, particularly Berlin. First and foremost a leisurely observer of urban life, a flâneur was someone that walked through a city, watching, but not participating in the things they saw. This allowed the viewer to experience and analyze city life from a detached, or external viewpoint. Despite their status as observers, early flâneurs retained and valued a sense of their own individuality and identity and many displayed flamboyant styles of self-presentation. Many flâneurs were also artists and writers who used their observations to inform their work. Particularly popular within Impressionist circles, the idea of an urban spectator underpinned the prolific streetscapes and images of popular entertainment seen in the work of artists such as Degas, Renoir, and Caillebotte, but it also influenced twentieth century art movements such as Street Photography.

..The Art Story

A streetcar is just about to coming out of the darkness. The design of streetcar in Toronto was changed in 2019 to more streamlined, sexier and low-floor one, but I still miss old one.

The photos of old streetcars were take in 2008.

This is a Canadian humor, grotesque humor for sure. It looks tough or somewhat creative, but you can find the déjà vu many times in just a few seconds. Somewhere in Las Vegas, or at one of the galleries in front of brick wall of 경복궁 etc.

I am gonna take this bus someday, keep trying Cheetos! I tried the same thing in London though.

In here even graffiti are nice and excellent in artistic sense. Not anything threatening. Appreciate your efforts guys!

Weather was so nice. I was emptying two pints of Canadian pilsner with a gigantic pretzel. The diameter of the pretzel was as big as my face with some exaggeration. Steam Whistle is Toronto based brewing company and I like their pilsner.

Military Chinook in the peaceful blue sky of Toronto?? I like the buxom design of the chopper though. Later I found, actually I guessed, that the big guy was returning to her base after air show in Hamilton, where I supposed to visit today but changed my mind.

Hyundai seemed like that they built the power station for small-scale power generation for condos nearby.

I was with my short, navy blue pants today.

Elephant & Castle is used to be my favorite bar and restaurant.

Yes I love this cosmopolitan city.

Toronto is still hungry for more skyscrapers.

Bye for now.
