What a mess, he thought. This one day felt like two.
Ed followed Alexander and said.
“I thought about going ‘fishing’ this Christmas, but they've all been caught it seems. You must be comfortable since you don't need to fish. You've already reeled in the big one! What are you going to do with Violet on the Holidays? Oh, you guys might not be able to even see each other face to face? How's Violet doing? She’s well, isn’t she?” Ed asked him with a smirking gaze.
Alexander looked at Ed and, considering his point, gave a half hearted shrug and took a drag on his cigarette, inhaling the smoke deeply.
He didn’t feel like getting pulled into an argument, which will progress with those words like “Never breathe a word of her!", "Why not? Are you breaking up with her?”; over something stupid. He didn’t want to even mention her any more. Of course, that meant from now on, especially now.
When he bit down on his cigarette, he heard his phone vibrate. He got a message from Violet.
<I want to talk to you, honey. Can we meet at 9 p.m. tomorrow?>
He stood there, wondering, what could she possibly want to talk about?
As was typical Violet, she obviously wanted him to answer before she told him what this was about. He thought it absurd that she tried to make an appointment with him without any sign of regret or apology, just like nothing had happened between them.
Alexander threw the cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it with his foot, quenching the fire. He thought back on the last time they’d spoken. Violet had told him several times that she is unhappy with his indifferent attitude recently. He always filed his relationship with her away with all the other troubles he was dealing with, and moreover, relationships weren't his strong suit.
Since she cheated on him various times, he was way beyond exhausted with her bullshit. That meant their meeting was wrong from the beginning, and they should admit this and give each other up clearly.
His phone rang. It was a call from Violet. He didn't answer for awhile, allowing time to drag along, waiting for her to quit calling. But she didn't. His phone was ringing angrily. Finally he answered, but said nothing.
