He was shouting pitifully, awoken by his own yelling. His pillow was soaked with real tears that had been shed in a dream. It took him a moment to remember where he was. When he got his bearings, he reflected on Cynthia's words. The dream was still fresh in his mind.
'Was it even a dream?' He thought, as he rubbed his forehead with his palm. His hands could still feel the ghost of her touch, the light, her smile. There even seemed to be that fragrance, lingering faintly, fleetingly like a whisper on the wind, almost not there at all, but still barely present.
'Was that real?' he said to himself.
‘I'm with you as long as you remember me.’
It was almost as if those words were spoken aloud, beckoned on by the question, and he heard them echo again in his head. Then the rest of what she'd said―dream or not, it was more than real, and he couldn't deny the truth of her words―brought dawning realization.
'My wounds. I won't allow them to heal, because of my attachment to the past.'
He was holding himself back, punishing himself, without even realizing he was doing it, for things he could never change about a life that ceased to be his long ago. He wasn't the same person he once was, and the obligations, loyalties, and mistakes associated with that past no longer held any sway over his future.
Part of him knew that, of course, but his trauma, his loss, he felt guilty for letting all that go; as if he was betraying someone he loved. But he didn't have to let her go. She would always be with him. He understood that now, and it took an angel―his angel―to remind him that healing is never betrayal, and moving forward is not the same as forgetting. He knew what he had to do.
He finished packing. Half of his things were thrown away, and half were packed neatly. He put a sufficient tip on the bed, and, not even looking back at the room, he left. Checking out hastily (waiting until the crew checked the condition of the room took longer than he expected), he grabbed a cab to the airport almost as soon as he left the lobby. Did he book the tickets beforehand? No, he didn't.
He felt sick of measuring all of the possibilities and potentialities which could happen. He just threw himself into destiny. It was reckless, sure, but it was also exciting. He stopped struggling to guess what would come next for him. The driver was a talkative one. He babbled briskly.
"I love traveling the world by flight. What I hate is waiting endlessly. Buy the ticket at least a few month before, waiting, having to deal with all the complex procedures in the airport, waiting until boarding time, waiting until reaching the destination, waiting to get out of the airport. As I get older, my patience is less and less. I can't deal with all that. By the way, what time is your flight?"
he asked.
> **“Was it even a dream?”**
> **“The ghost of her touch…” / “fragrance, lingering faintly”**
> **“He was holding himself back, punishing himself…”**
| ----------------------------------- | ------------------------- |
| “I can’t move on, or it’s betrayal” | “Healing is not betrayal” |
> **“He finished packing. Half was thrown away, half was packed neatly.”**
> **“Not even looking back at the room…”**
> **“Did he book the tickets beforehand? No.”**
> **“He just threw himself into destiny.”**
> **“As I get older, my patience is less and less. I can't deal with all that.”**
* 이 기사 캐릭터는 단순한 배경인물이 아니라, **Alexander의 과거 자아에 대한 메타포**입니다.
* 복잡한 절차
* 기다림에 대한 불만
* 예측하고 통제하려는 태도
