One night, we made love. We hadn’t slept together in quite a long time. That night, I was feeling pretty good since, for the first time in awhile, I didn't have to go into work. So we did it several times in one night. We were in bliss.

And can you believe it? She got pregnant that night. It was unbelievable to hear that news. We were so happy despite our poverty. I worked harder. Whichever job I could get, I did them all.

Principally, I worked at a bar as a bartender, because the pay comparatively high. When I worked, Adeline was alone at home. But she bore it willingly. She knew my will, which was wanting to earn money, and as much as possible for our future family. And besides, because she was pregnant, she couldn’t work. Even if she wanted to try, I might stop her.”

Cynthia tried to grap her glass but fell it. He noticed she was slurring her words.

“Hey, enough. Don’t drink anymore.”

She just finished her third glass of whiskey without his knowledge. She waved her hand to prevent Alexander from stopping her.

“Go on, just keep telling me the story of you and Adeline.”

“Stop drinking, just don’t.”

“Okay, okay. I won't.”

She unwillingly detached her hand from the whiskey bottle and glass, and watched Alexander’s face with her arms crossed. Her face blushed a little, but looked quite sober despite her twisted tongue.

“We used to imagine having a baby together in the future. Who would the baby take after, looks-wise? Me or Adeline? Or our baby could be babies: twins. Would the baby like literature just like us? Or would he/she gravitate towards a totally different world from us?

I should have learned that sometimes imagination and happiness can't go long together along the path of a harsh reality.
