The Frozen Ground flaws

雨水 [12] / [35]

―I told you, I lost a large amount of money.

―You didn’t even think about contacting me, did you?

―I tried, but my phone was out of battery.

I lied.

―Do you know how many times I called you?

My anger exploded, I threw my jacket which I had in my hand down on the floor roughly.

―Are you deaf? I said my phone was dead. It was out of power!

She was disturbed slightly. She had never seen me do this before.

―Did you remember that we had dinner reservations tonight?

―I do. Yes, that’s why I was so frantic.

―You remembered and didn’t give me any clue as to why you didn’t show up.

―I was looking for the money.

I bore anger with clenched teeth.

―You were so busy trying to find your money.

She corrected my words.

―Not my money, our money.

―I waited without knowing anything, called wherever I could, including hospitals, worrying that you might have been in an accident or something. I went out to the bus station and subway station to wait for your arrival. Since you hadn’t given me any damn word. Not a word.

When I saw her flashing eyes, I realized that I put more importance on the money than her. I just concentrated on the money, not her, who must have been worried about me. I’d never thought of that. I couldn’t be angry or say one word. She continued.

―If I have to be in the position that's less important than money to you, what’s the meaning of us being together? This is not the first time, as you know. You forgot countless times to contact me, and I endured all of this. Now I know that I shouldn’t have endured your ignorance in the first place.

―Adeline, I . . .

My anger subsided.

―How could you totally forget me because of something as trivial as money?

―Trivial?

The word stirred me again.

―You shouldn’t have said that, what do you mean by trivial?

―Yes, I said trivial. Look at how we live! No better than beggars, struggling for trivial money, being forgotten for the sake of a small amount of money.
