 It is clear that the antonym of idealism is not realism, if recall that an ideal is very realistic concept. An ideal must remain unfulfilled in order to function as an ideal. Once realized, it is no longer an ideal. Imperfect reality is the prerequisite for the ideal. A true idealist has to be a proficient technician who portrays flawed reality in an extremely realistic way.
