C.S.Lewis

Saw the Lion and was moved by its majesty - almost sublime. Reminded me of the Pentelikon and of Corbusier’s great belief in Sculptors... us. Innocent detail of silvery gutters at the bottom of great cracks shining like tiny miners’ shovels. Spectators come and go but the beast stays solitary and indifferent hewn in rocks. This idea itself is almost as impressive as its handsome execution (by Lukas Ahorn), or perhaps vice versa.

And then a long walk on/along the Musegg wall - was sort of sceptical in the beginning but turned out to be quite an enjoyable route. Climbed to the top of one of the towers to see the lake, mountains etc. Dormant landscape with distilled colours and the funny little circle of ‘the Luzern Eye’ in front of the KKL looks rather lost. On the wall (thinking briefly of Dubrovnik) through some tall trees and down again to the field on the other side with some bison looking like brown or black mounds. Marching percussion is being performed at the riverside and suddenly a lot of people everywhere. And of course, the smell of cheese.

Then again a train back to Zürich (60 francs for a return ticket!), all of this within just a few hours.
