A fine 2-hour repast at Sale e Tabacchi with lentil soup, pasta (I spaghetti alle vongole, she orecchiette with tuna fillets) topped off by a luscious tiramisu and coffee. It was 4 when we were done with all the eating and talking & went for a stroll. In the atrium of Gropius Bau were supposedly ‘whales’ by one New York and Berlin-based media artist which I had been curious about for some days. It was unspectacular because he had decided to simply set up a screen in the middle of the room to play his video instead of making use of the beautiful space. The film itself rather gaudy, lacking the sense of sophisticated magnificence one associates with the creatures the title alludes to. Still we stayed there for a while waiting for something great to happen. Then I bought a book and we continued walking, passed the Potsdamer Platz and the memorial to the Brandenburger Tor & took a photo in front of the big tree there.

The book I bought is Vilém Flusser’s Dinge und Undinge. A Brazilian Czech-born media philosopher of whom I had not heard (regrettably) until that moment in Walther König - a truly delicious read and I’m constantly amazed at how fluently he weaves things together to create what he wants to be said.
