John 6:16-29
Jesus Walks on the Water
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading. 22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. 23 Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.
Jesus the Bread of Life
25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” 26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” 28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
A lot of people were in search of Jesus as they had had food through a miraculous sign. However, Jesus knew that they did not know about what they need to seek, which should not be just daily food that spoils, but the food that endures to eternal life. Almost all people are eager to seek food, without thinking about how well it goes bad as time goes on. Of course, we need food to live on, but the problem is that we only think and seek the food that goes into our mouth and makes our body healthy or fit.
Our body is important, and food is the basic need as human beings, as well as animals or insects. If our life on earth were the end of it, it's Ok, but it is not the end at all. Who knows the life after death? According to the bible or even the other spiritual books like Buddhism or Hinduism, tells us that there is life after death, which means it is not the end, but to be continued.
We never knows the time of death, though we rarely get the warning note from doctors. I am not saying that we should get ready for the future, the unknown day of death, rather I am focusing on Jesus' saying about the food, and the works that we should do now is believing in Jesus, on Him God has put His seal of approval, a kind of sealing on Us as a believer or not. What a simple thing! Just believe in Him and get the food that does not spoil and gives us eternal life.
Why not believe it? Because it doesn't make sense? Human beings have 5 or 6 senses, but they are limited within them. I mean that though we saw or watched, and heard, and got the proofs of any miraculous signs, we do not believe, but only doubt, if we are willingly opposing or denying them. So it's important to believe in Jesus as the one whom God has sent, which is the work of God, as God wants us only to believe it with faith, and it is the most important and urgent, but freely given food that we have to take on a daily basis.
