Jonah's Fish

Jonah 1:1-17

Jonah’s Prayer

17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jesus told the Israelites about the only miracles that He could show was Jonah's staying in the belly of a big fish for 3 days, which means His resurrection after 3 days. Actually, He performed many kinds of miraculous signs to them, including the resurrection of Lazarus. However, He was commenting on Jonah's revival from the belly of a fish, which could be dark and like a hell.

Jonah lived in around B.C. 760 at the Jeroboam king period of Northern Israel. He was a prophet who was called to be a preacher or an announcer of God's voice, but he was resisting not to obey it, by running away from the city where he should go to. Because so-called the great city of Nineveh people were enemies to his people, he opposed against God's calling or His command. He moved to the opposite direction from the city.

He had known well of what God had wanted him to do, but he didn't want to follow it. Even when some troubles happened to him and some other people could have experienced troubles, because of that, he didn't change his mind, rather he wanted to die. That shows how much he refused to do it and I wonder why God forced him to do what he didn't want to.

That's the calling. The so-called called people should do even what they don't want to, as it's God's will. We humans have our own wickedness and stubbornness in our mind and thoughts, and it's not easy to change or return from it, as we think that it's right, and it's our identity or our lives. These days, I often think about sins and that is the sin. I mean, the tendency of not changing our minds and thoughts are sins we have got from birth. Our minds are thoughts are not good in nature, as we are born sinful men.

I am called as a Christian, and my Father sometimes or oftentimes tells me to do something I do not want to. Then, I try to do it, as I know that God is righter, smarter, and more generous than me. Also, I trust in Him who provides me with good things, not bad things, which is from the Words and my experience in life. Trust in Him!
