23. 무리를 보내신 후에 기도하러 따로 산에 올라가시다 저물매 거기 혼자 계시더니
23. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,
30. 바람을 보고 무서워 빠져 가는지라 소리질러 가로되 주여 나를 구원하소서 하니
30. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31. 예수께서 즉시 손을 내밀어 저를 붙잡으시며 가라사대 믿음이 적은 자여 왜 의심하였느냐 하시고
31. Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Faith and doubt seems to have the opposite attribute each other, just like the scale of balancing this or that. If faith is little, doubt goes up, while doubt is less, faith goes upper. Does this make sense? Yes! Then, how can I make my faith heavier, or doubt lighter?
Jesus was the son of God who had the power to perform miraculous things, but He was still praying to God, Father. He is considered as God Himself, but He was oftentimes praying to God for the people and disciples and also for His own mission of crucifixion. Praying doesn't mean to have doubt, rather it is the opposite. I mean, when I have faith, I pray whenever I have time. However, when I feel the lack of faith, in other word, feeling doubtful, I pray to Him as well.
Faith is one of the greatest gift of God, but I believe that I should do feel His presence more often and experience His doing work through my life, so that my faith may grow and get bigger. Therefore, Peter, who was experiencing this kind of His presence very often, could have had a bigger faith than before and than anyone else.
I am going to start to take another step of faith, anticipating some stormy winds that I will not be able to deal with for myself and by myself. And I have also doubt about what is gonna be good for me and for His work, but I am determined to walk, holding His hand and focusing on His mouth.
Now, I pray for pastor Jang, the missionary, who has been suffering from fever, and who has been waiting for being discharged from a hospital after over a month of treatment and staying because of the stem cell transplantation. Father, we need heavier faith and less doubt at this moment. Let him walk out of the broken and shaky boat-like ward, having bigger faith than ever and being transformed into more faithful man of faith, so that he would shine like the sun in the kingdom of Father.
