Good tree vs. Thorn-bush

Judges 9:7-21

by 영어 참견러

Jotham, the youngest son of Jerub-Baal, escaped and climed up on the top of the mountain and shouted to the citizens of Shechem, "Listen to me, so that God may listen to you."(9:7)

Then, he says parables of olive tree, fig tree, vine tree and thorn-bush. The first three are trees of bearing fruits of its own, but thorn-bush has no fruits, except fire that comes out and consumes itself and others. The thorn-bush means Abimelek who murdered his own 70 step- brothers in a day. Unfortunately, I feel like these thorn-bushes are like some dictators and politicians who are going to hold sway over his own people, instead of good trees of bearing fruits and humbling themselves.

Jotham was a little boy who had lost all of his brothers and had no power to do except hiding himself, being afraid, but he shouted and told the truth to the citizens of Shechem even on a mountain. His point is that when they do the right and good thing, then God would do listen to them as God is righteous. I hope that there are more people who are praying for my country, shouting about the injustice of our society, so that God may listen to us and let we rejoyce in peace without any fire that consumes us at once.
