Good faith

Judges 11:1-11

by 영어 참견러

Jephthah answered, "Suppose you take me back to fight the Ammonites and the Lord gives them to me- will I really be your head?" (11: 9) And he repeated all his words before the LORD in Mizpah.(11:11)

Jephthah became the 8th Judges in the period of fighting against the Canaaites without kings, but, actually, at that time, the Lord was their king, but they keep seeking judges, as a leader or commander of them, so that they could safely dwell in there, being protected from enemies. Jephthah was born as a son of a concubine, who was a prostitute, and he was treated wrongly from his step-brothers, even having been kicked out from his home. He was a mighty warrior and a leader of scoundrels, but he trusted in God and prayed to the Lord all the time.

Repeating all his words before the LORD(11) means that he prayed and asked Him for everything he wants. Whenever he was in trouble, or when he was deeply down from the mistreating of his family members or neighbors, he must have cried out to God, not other gods or idols, or taking his revenge on them. Moreover, he knew that every victory over battles was in His hand, so he said, "Suppose that the Lord gives them to me."(9)

However hard I may try to get or desire something eagerly, if it is not His will, or if He does not allow it to me, I would not get it. Even if I get it, I believe that it would not work well or be good for me. Therefore, I think that good faith is to do act according to the Lord's will, not my own, and repeating all my words before Father whenever I am in trouble or even in peace.
