Judges 12:1-15

by 영어 참견러

5 The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, "Let me cross over, " the men of Gilead asked him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he replied, "No, "
6. they said, "All right, say `Shibboleth.'" If he said, "Sibboleth, " because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.

This scene is literally 'dog-eat-dog' case among Israelites, who had the same ancestor, and the children of Abraham who lived in faith to God. They had to get through many difficulties in the wilderness after Exodus, and even in the process of fighting against Cananites and dwelling in Cannane, they were united. However, they have completely changed and they treat one another as enemies. These kinds of happening could be seen in the modern history, even in Korea, my country.

What on earth a sad and miserable life we have lived! No kings or leaders could have made the human life well enough to have peace and well-being except the period of God ruling it by Himself. Throughout the history, we should keep it in mind that our real and true king is the only one, the Lord, as the human itself is not perfect and is not able to stand firm forever. With a little bit of misjudgmet or misbehavior that comes from anger brings tragedy to his or her people who they were not considered as their real loved ones, but rather as their maids or maidservants. Nevertheless, I just pray for the leader of my country could be good and wise enough to love and consider them not their own people, but God's beloved ones.
