13 Delilah then said to Samson, “All this time you have been making a fool of me and lying to me. Tell me how you can be tied.”
This scene reminds me of the story about a shepherd boy who was lying only because of being bored, and in the end, losing his own sheep and trust as well. Delilah was telling lies to Samson, but In the contrary, she says that he is making fun of her and lying to her. It is a totally opposite case from the shepherd boy.
The interesting thing is that Samson doesn't realize the situation sooner or later, though it happens three times. He must be such a foolish man, and what makes him like this?
At first, he lost his vision or purpose of life as a Nazirite. Secondly, he was pursuing to make love with women, regardless of a prostitute or a pagan. Thirdly, his life was so disordered that he went around at night or at dawn from town to town. I think that these kinds of personalities and attitude led his life like this intellectual and spiritual darkness.
The more interesting thing is that I could be the one of Samson-like men who are living without any vision or purpose of life, just living to make love with what I want, such as money or love, or honor from men, etc. I have tried to seek the Exit to which I would have to go out in order to escape from darkness in life. I believe that I found it out, or otherwise, I can tell that it was open to me one day without any trial. It was the grace of God that I could go through the Exit and see the true or false nature of the wicked world.
The most interesting thing is that I am sometimes tricked by men who are wicked, cheating me with good or nagging words like Delilah, the tempting woman, whose identity is a howling and roaming lion or lioness. That is the reason I have to be awake all the time with prayer and meditation and with humbleness in heart, not putting my goal too high enough to be tackled and fall down from Satan's temptation. Actually, it comes from my sins of seeking to get satisfied with the wordly things too much beyond my abilities or beyond my identity.
In a nutshell, I just want to give thanks to my Father who gives daily bread, including fresh air to breathe and fresh water to drink, not forgetting my identity as a Christian who was called to be the light and salt of the world. I pray for myself on my birthday. Amen!
