Source of Power

Judges 16:15-31

17 So he told her everything. “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite dedicated to God from my mother’s womb. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.”

Samson knew for sure that he himself had been dedicated to God from his mother's womb, and his power came from his hair. I am deep in thought why he was asked to raise his hair, not cutting it off and how that could be the source of power. Could the hair itself be the source of his strength? I don't think so. I think that it must have played the role of him remembering his own mission and identity as a Nazirite, but he didn't. Rather, he used his power wrongly to make love with pagan women and threaten people around him.

What is the source of power that could make me live as a Christian? No drinking or no smoking habit couldn't be the symbol of it. Neither do the position in a church or calling as a deacon or deaconess, or a preacher, missionary, or even a pastor itself make ourselves holy and pure, or sacred, and that does not guarantee on His chosen children. I believe that it is the Holy Spirit that makes us powerful and differentiates us from others. If I lose the power of the Holy Spirit and I do not bear the fruits of it, I would become as weak as any other man. The worst thing is that I could be trampled by the men on the street, like Samson, whose eyes were gauged out and stayed in a dark prison, working for his enemies.

The only thing to keep my power of the Holy Spirit staying within me, without leaving me, is to pray and meditate the word of God day and night, and try to love my neighbors as myself.

Joshua 1: 8

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written on it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
