잘하는 것을 찾기 위해 평소에 자신이 잘하는/좋아하는 것을 기록하거나, 친구들을 대상으로 내가 하는 역할을 보면 힌트가 될 수 있음(예: 수학을 가르쳐줌, 파티를 계획함, 심리 상담해줌, 운동을 도와줌)
세상이 필요한 것을 찾기 위해 세상을 잘 관찰해야 함. 특히 일시적인 유행 (예: 일본어, 중국어, 컴퓨터공학, 유전학) 말고 향후 50년 간 장기적으로 사회에 필요한 것을 생각할 것
일을 단순히 돈을 얻기 위해 싫은 일을 참아야 하는 것이 아니므로 일 밖에서 즐거움을 찾을 것이 아니라 즐거워할 수 있는 일을 찾을 것
일을 통해 수입을 얻는 것은 물론 개인적으로 성장/성취하고 사회적으로 기여할 수 있도록 하기
(Commencement speech to Columbia graduates) Despite the economic recession, the advancement of AI, and high unemployment rates, what this year's graduates need is to find what they are good at (craft) and what the world needs (need).
To find what you are good at, keep a record of what you are good at or enjoy in your daily life, or observe the roles you play for your friends; this can provide hints (e.g., math tutor, party planner, psychologist, workout coach).
To find what the world needs, you must observe the world closely. In particular, think about what society will need in the long term—for the next 50 years—rather than focusing on temporary trends (e.g., Japanese, Chinese, computer science, genetics).
Work is not simply about enduring unpleasant tasks to earn money; therefore, instead of seeking pleasure outside of work, find work that you can truly enjoy.
Ensure that through work, you not only earn income but also achieve personal growth and accomplishment, and contribute to society.
