Following the Supreme Court's ruling that Trump's tariffs are unconstitutional, GM is set to receive a tariff refund of ~$500 million.
Net income is expected to increase due to the refund. GM's net income for the first quarter was ~$2.6 billion, down 6% year-over-year. Adjusted EBIT, excluding interest and taxes, increased 22% year-over-year.
Last February, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump abused his authority to impose tariffs, allowing companies that paid the tariffs to receive refunds from the government.
As a result, GM will be able to mitigate the negative impact caused by the $1 billion cost of reducing EV production and sluggish sales volume.
According to GM, truck and SUV sales remain robust.
However, GM is closely monitoring the situation regarding the war in Iran, as rising oil prices could reduce sales of its highly profitable trucks.
Additionally, import tariffs imposed on steel, aluminum, and automotive parts remain in effect.
