Lawyers for Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew sparred over whether a previous settlement between her and Jeffrey Epstein, a sex offender, shields the Duke of York from liability in her civil suit against him. She says she suffered sexual abuse two decades ago; the prince denies the allegation. In 2009 she accepted $500,000 from Epstein and agreed not to sue any “potential defendants”.

Verizon and AT&T agreed to delay the deployment of their 5G mobile services in America. The Federal Aviation Administration and the White House were concerned that it could interfere with sensitive aircraft electronics. The Japanese firm outsold its Detroit-based competitor by about 114,000 vehicles, with sales up by 10% in America, compared with a slide of 13% at GM. Toyota has weathered the chip shortage better than other carmakers.
