Bitcoin Hits Record High of $120,000 (WSJ. 20250714)
Bitcoin hit a record high this morning, soaring past 120,000 before pulling back. The digital token has seen a boost this year due to a growing number of corporations stockpiling Bitcoin and the crypto-friendly stance of the Trump administration. This comes as investors bet on a big week for cryptocurrencies. Later today, the House of Representatives will begin a debate on a series of bills aimed at creating a regulatory framework for digital assets that the crypto industry has long been calling for. Plus, we are exclusively reporting that Google has agreed to pay around $2.4 billion to license the technology of AI coding startup, Windsurf, hire its CEO and some of its employees. That's according to people familiar with the matter. Google isn't taking a stake in Windsurf and most of Windsurf's existing employees will remain at the company. The deal comes after talks for OpenAI to acquire Windsurf stalled, and is also another example of the pitched battle going on between Silicon Valley giants to hire and retain the most talented AI scientists and engineers. And finally, Elon Musk has announced that Tesla shareholders will vote on investing in his artificial intelligence startup, xAI. This comes after the Wall Street Journal exclusively reported that Musk's rocket company, SpaceX, has committed to a $2 billion investment. The SpaceX investment is part of xAI's $5 billion equity fundraise announced by Morgan Stanley last month and is one of SpaceX's largest investments in another company.
