Trump and EU Leaders Discuss Red Lines Ahead of Summit With Putin (20250813)
President Trump held a virtual summit with select European leaders, including Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss red lines for the coming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Shortly before the meeting was set to begin on Wednesday morning in Washington, the Russian government reiterated that its conditions for ending the war remain unchanged, among them is a demand that Ukraine withdraw from territories that Russia hasn't conquered. GE Appliances says it plans to invest $3 billion to expand and modernize its U.S. factories over the next five years, helping blunt the effects of tariffs by reshoring some work now done in China and Mexico. The appliance maker is owned by China-based Haier Smart Home. The company said the investment will go into factories in South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama, and will create a thousand jobs. And, Air Canada has received notice that its flight attendants are preparing for a strike as early as Saturday after contract negotiations broke down between the Canadian airline and the attendants' union. The Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents about 10,000 flight attendants at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge, said today it provided notice it intends to begin a strike within 72 hours. Air Canada's executive vice president in charge of labor relations said yesterday both sides remained "far apart on key issues."
