Hopes for Interest-Rate Cut Lead to Modest Stock Gains (20250813)
U.S. stock indexes ended the day higher reflecting market hopes that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in September. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1% to close at 44,922. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 were both up slightly, less than half a percentage point. Among individual companies, shares in the crypto exchange operator Bullish jumped 84% in their first day of trading. The IPO raised 1.1 billion. Cava shares were down 17% after the fast casual chain missed its growth expectations. And Amazon's news that it's launching same-day grocery delivery services caused shares of grocery retailers, Kroger, Walmart, DoorDash and Instacart to fall.
