Ukraine’s Zelensky Tries to Shore Up Support Ahead of Trump-Putin Summit (20250814)
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in London for talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Zelenskyy is trying to shore up support among European leaders ahead of the summit in Alaska tomorrow between President Trump and his Russian counterpart. The Ukrainian leader is not invited to the Trump-Putin meeting. Yesterday, Trump told European leaders, including Zelenskyy, that he would not negotiate territorial issues. Adding that Ukraine must discuss that directly with Russia. The Trump administration is facing fresh criticism over its immigration detention network, this time at a newly built Florida facility dubbed Alligator Alcatraz. In a legal filing, detainees describe the Everglades tent camp as dirty, cut off from the outside world, and unfit for long-term stays. Homeland Security flatly denies those claims, calling the site clean and safe. President Trump has issued an executive order that aims to speed up rocket launches and open the door to more spaceport developments. Currently, SpaceX launches more rockets more often than any other company, meaning the order to speed up the licensing of flights should help it. But other launchers, including Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and United Launch Alliance are also poised to begin flying their new rockets more often in the years ahead.
