EU Leaders Arrive at White House Ahead of Trump-Zelensky Meeting (20250818)
European leaders are arriving at the White House ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's Oval Office meeting with President Trump. According to European officials involved in preparations for the summit, they plan to press the Trump administration over what the US is specifically willing to do to support a security guarantee for Ukraine as part of a peace deal, including the possibility of putting US troops on the ground. Democrats and the Texas House of Representatives have returned to the state, ending a two-week walkout aimed at preventing a Republican-backed redistricting plan. Their return all but ensures that the plan will be passed, an effort that could result in the GOP gaining five new seats in the National House of Representatives. The rebrand aims to establish its own identity and distance the network from its NBC heritage. CNBC will keep its name and is working on a new logo. The new names and brands will be rolled out later this year ahead of the completion of the spinoff. And European exports to the US continue to slow sharply, declining by 10% year-over-year in June, underscoring the drag the continent's trade faces from President Trump's trade tariffs. According to the European Union statistics agency, the bloc's overall trade surplus shrank to just 1.8 billion euros, down from 12.7 billion euros a month earlier.
