Tech Slide Weighs on U.S. Markets (20250819)
A slide in technology shares led to mixed results in US stock indexes today. The S&P 500 fell 0.6%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq dropped 1.5%. Investors sold some of the summer's biggest winners like Palentir Technologies, whose shares fell more than 9% and moved into less favored sectors like utilities and healthcare. That helped the Dow eke out a gain of less than a 10th of a percent. Among individual companies, shares of Home Depot rallied 3% after the retailer reaffirmed its annual guidance even while posting disappointing quarterly results.
