U.S. Stocks Tick Higher Despite Threat to Fed Governor (WJS. 20250826)
U.S. stocks rose today with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq leading major indexes higher, each by about 0.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained about 0.3%. That comes a day after President Trump said he would fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. The Fed is defending her tenure. Meanwhile, the dollar slipped while bond yields saw a slight drop, and oil prices declined more than 2%. Among individual companies, shares of EchoStar surged more than 70% a After AT&T agreed to buy wireless spectrum licenses from the company. Eli Lilly stock climbed nearly 6% after the drugmaker said a third late-stage study of an anti-obesity pill showed promise. And shares of Trump Media and Technology, the President's media company rose more than 5% after it announced it's launching a new cryptocurrency company affiliated with trading platform, Crypto.com
