The White House says it's fired Susan Monarez, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, less than a month into her tenure. Several top CDC officials have resigned, throwing the agency's leadership into turmoil. According to a senior Trump administration official, Monarez clashed with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy and members of his staff, with a major source of disagreement being the CDC's guidance on vaccines. Lawyers for Monarez said that they rejected the notification because only the president himself can fire her. We're exclusively reporting that President Trump has fired Robert Primus, a board member of the railroad regulator that's weighing the proposed mega-merger between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern. Primus, a Democrat, was the only member of the board to oppose the tie-up of rail companies Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern a few years ago. He said yesterday that he plans to challenge his termination. The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. And BYD sold more cars in Europe than Tesla last month, as Elon Musk's electric vehicle maker continues to face stiff competition from Chinese rivals on the continent. New car registrations for BYD models more than tripled year-on-year across the EU in July, while registrations for Tesla models contracted more than 40%. Overall, the bloc's EV market is improving, with sales of battery electric vehicles increasing 39% on year.
