Following Musk's tweet, Twitter's stock price dropped significantly. Investors, believing Musk would not proceed with the acquisition, sold their shares, incurring losses.
However, Musk did acquire Twitter. Investors then sued him, alleging he intentionally manipulated the stock price to acquire the company at a lower cost.
Musk explained that there were many fake accounts (bots) at the time, Twitter did not clearly disclose information about the bots, he was merely stating his opinion, and he did not anticipate his tweets would cause the stock price to drop so significantly.
If Musk loses this lawsuit, he could be required to pay billions of dollars in damages.
